Unbirthday party and Malaysian extravaganza

Hey monks. I'm planning to post more about Malayisan food and the restaurant we ate at. You are pretty right on the nose about the influences though.
 
I have a southeast asian cookbook and there's some extremely spicey looking Malaysian recipe in there (shrimp dish) that looked delightful but it called for "blachan" and I've never been able to find it. I guess it's like a dried shrimp paste and it really gives the dish its flavour. *sigh* I'm one of those people that happen to be slavisly tied to culinary perfection when executing a recipe.
