You can't take the maple out of Canadia

Unfortunately, sugar maples are migrating north, meaning that the US will be producing less and less maple syrup/sugar. You can read about the history of the maple in the US and the science behind this trend in an excellent article from Slate.
Also, please let me know if I'm the only one who is interested in this article, as I suspect it's the hard core Canadian in me that is so attached to maple products.

OMG!! Thanks for this article. I fucking love maple products! I can drink maple syrup like it's a beverage. I have dreams about those damn maple sugar candies. Every winter I want to go up to Quebec just to visit a Sugar Shack. Oh sweet, sweet maple tree--you bring me so much joy!

Of course, another Canadian! I have yet to visit a sugar shack... I should put that on my list of things to do... eat maple candies with burly, plaid-wearing French Canadian men in the middle of Snowy Nowhere.
